On the Road to Carolina
With the pandemic limiting travel through 2020, Mark and I decided to do the safest trip possible to visit Matthew: we took to the road to North Carolina in October and again at Thanksgiving. Our first trip was short but memorable with a stay a the Durham Hotel and relaxing time hanging out at Matthew’s house. The longer vacation began with a drive to our rental house near Asheville, loaded down with a Yeti cooler stuffed with a Thanksgiving turkey, all the fixings, and groceries for the duration. Thankfully, Mark was wary of snow and ice at that time of year; the SUV rental came in handy climbing the steep mountain road to the house. Matthew and Sharon arrived from Durham the next day and were wowed by the views as we were. I couldn’t get over the excellent book collection that could have kept us reading for months. After chilling, at times literally, for a couple of days, we ventured out to Asheville to stop by a few of the breweries. Sampling beers outdoors at the original Wicked Weed, Burial and Funkatorium was made easy, and being there brought back to Mark and me why it’s a favorite spot to visit. Until next time…
