Monterey and Big Sur

Since we were so close to Jean in San Francisco, Mark and I took a detour and drove down to Monterey from the SF airport. She and Jack met us there at the Jabberwock Inn, a very special B&B that served a breakfast every morning so delicious and cozy that it almost kept you indoors. Almost. With the coast of Monterey and Big Sur out there, the temptation didn't last. Jean and Jack drove us to their favorite sights, which made it crystal clear why this coast is renowned. With all the natural beauty as backdrop, you can find one picturesque town after another. We had dinner that first night in Pacific Grove and lunches in the town of Monterey and along the return drive from Big Sur. We made time to stop by the historic mission at San Juan Bautista, one of the settings in Vertigo, and before we headed to the San Francisco airport, we said our goodbyes to Jean at Stanford. We had spent only a few days on the California coast, but it felt like a complete getaway.
