End of Summer 2026

All good things come to an end, and Mark and I spent the last days of summer with Jack and Benjamin, helping out after Elizabeth and the boys were in a car accident leaving Grand Isle. We were relieved they came out of it without more serious injury, but Elizabeth’s broken right arm required painful surgery and a prolonged recovery time. Thank God, she’s as tough as she is. Jack was affected more than Benjamin and was brave through it all. Both boys bounced back almost immediately. Bonnie and John, and Jennifer and Eric, were incredibly helpful after the accident, and Amy had us stay in her condo in New Orleans which was, thankfully, very close to the hospitals where Elizabeth and Jack were admitted. What we would do without family, I don’t know. The days with Elizabeth and our grandsons were precious to us, and Matthew’s visit brought much needed laughter to his sister. Mark and I quietly marked our 46th anniversary, planning to enjoy a long weekend later in September. Looking back on those five weeks of summer, I am so grateful for that time. As parents, we never stop feeling protective of our children.
