Easter Weekend, Spring Blooms, Rainy Days

Easter Weekend, Spring Blooms, Rainy Days

Easter Weekend in Austin was back-to-nature time with hiking on the Greenbelt, scootering through the neighborhood, and swimming and collecting specimens in the backyard. All said, Jack collected one frog, two slugs, and 37 snails. The lizard was my pet, and it was a little sad when we had to let him go. Jack plunged into the cold pool a few times—at first in the pouring rain and 60-degree temps—and Benjamin shocked me when he got in, too. Later, back in Houston, we decided on a Friday sleepover with Mom and the boys, with movie night in the theater. And on Saturday, when we typically are not in town, we were lucky to catch Benjamin’s baseball game. On the field, he may be more into pest control (as his coach said), but he does like getting to bat and run the bases. And both boys enjoy their group tennis lessons every Tuesday. On routine days after school, when Jack and Benjamin don’t have sports, they always want to swing in the front yard, or build Lego bases in the back house, or work on homemade projects outside. Lately, they love to climb their favorite tree down the street. And when it’s pouring, there’s nothing like running in the rain, and collecting water samples from the gutters. Sometimes it seems the everyday joys at home are the best.
