Santa Fe and Telluride, and all the familiar places
For our anniversary—unbelievably 41 years—Mark and I took to familiar roads. Santa Fe and Telluride hold good memories for us, and with the continuing precautions about Covid-19, they seemed a wise choice of a destination. What’s more, there’s a lot to say for revisiting places you know well, feeling no pressure to see all the sights and to pack your schedule to make the most of time. The leisurely days with relaxing hikes and good food and drink were all we needed. By total coincidence, our dear friends Pat and Bob had planned to be in Santa Fe at the same time, on their way to Colorado Springs and Denver. We had not seen them since our vacation together in the Grand Canyon. Mountains will continue to beckon us, I know. It may be that “water and meditation are wedded forever” as Herman Melville says. But for me, there’s nothing more awe-inspiring than a mountain landscape.
