Jack's 1st Birthday and a Fall to Remember
Jack reached the biggest milestone yet when he turned one year old this summer on June 28. It was a low key celebration, with the pandemic raging, but the weeks to follow would bring one new development after another. In short, our little baby has quickly progressed to our little boy. (I will load new photos at the top from now on; Jack’s birthday pics are at the bottom.) Meanwhile, this Fall, a return to normalcy seems a long time away. School children, like Klein and Georgia, have had to adjust to a new normal of mask-wearing and social distancing in the classroom, or remote learning online, and protests have gained strong support for Black Lives Matter. Now the anxiety about interference (foreign and domestic) in the presidential election has given way to outrage over brazen efforts to overturn the election results. Outrage by half the country, that is. For years, it’s been A Tale of Two Countries, with the different realities drawn on partisan lines. Barack Obama was not exaggerating when he said our democracy is at stake. Of course, Matthew has been sounding the alarm for a long time. We have missed him, so much so that we made the drive to North Carolina in October for a brief visit. Thank God we live close to Elizabeth and Andrew and our grandson, who with his innocence and excitement for life makes every day a joy.
