Jack's Baptism

Jack's Baptism

Baptisms bring back memories of our children as babies, in Gainesville, Florida and Reston, Virginia. A funny memory of Stephen’s baptism in Gainesville is the priest losing track of the reading. After an awkward pause, I picked up where he left off until he was ready to resume. I don’t remember any of our children crying or disrupting the ceremony in any way, but I have to say Jack was an angel. With many in our families attending, our grandson John Stephen Chambers was baptized on January 11, 2020. Four generations were represented in photos of Jack, Andrew, his father and grandfather, and in those of Jack and Andrew with his mother and grandmother. Matthew and Molly stood beside him — looking beautiful — as godparents. In our family, Amy drove in from Louisiana with Molly, and Matthew flew in from Durham. Bonnie and Jennifer drove over from Katy, with Klein dressed as a little man in bow tie. Andrew’s brother David and more of his family were with us for the event. It was a joyous celebration, and gathering at Elizabeth and Andrew’s house afterwards for lunch and mimosas capped the day. I include photos of Debbie’s visit to Houston, just one week after the baptism. It was her first time seeing Jack, and it was also her first time seeing our place near Elizabeth. Debbie got a taste of our apartment life walking to Whole Foods and to our favorite restaurants. She also quickly became attached to Jack who was his usual friendly, lovable self.
