France in Conclusion: Cluny, Chamonix, and Annecy
We took the late TGV back to Lyon and drove the next day to Cluny Abbey, the former Benedictine monastery founded in 910 and mostly destroyed during the French Revolution. What remains is beautiful, and it was very moving to walk among the ruins of the greatest monastery of the Middle Ages. From there we drove on to Chamonix/Mont Blanc for spectacular scenery and adventure, and on to the quiet beauty of Annecy.
