At Debbie's in York, Pennsylvania, and Steely Dan
We had to reschedule twice, but we finally made it to Debbie’s in York, Pennsylvania in June. Mark fell in love with her beautiful mid-century house which Debbie has made into a welcoming home. I fell in love with her lush green backyard and neighborhood. After relaxing and catching up the first morning over coffee, we drove out to the picturesque town of Lititz for lunch and then out to Amish country. Lindsay and Georgia joined us for a hike on the York Heritage Rail Trail the next day, and the whole family crossed over to Maryland with us to Big Truck Brewery that evening. The setting was beautiful: wide open country of green fields and blue sky.
The day after we returned to Austin, Bonnie and John drove over for the Steely Dan concert at ACL—the concert that had been rescheduled three times due to Covid. It was a fun night that began with dinner at Red Ash, a new Italian restaurant that happens to be a favorite of Patrick’s. A jazz combo opened for the band, and then Steely Dan played on with mostly high-energy numbers that tend to be crowd pleasers, over the more mellow favorites of mine like Ricki, Don’t Lose That Number and Bad Sneakers. No matter, it was all pleasing to me, and when they finished with Reelin’ in the Years, I felt I had finally seen my band. Bonnie and John stuck around the next day to get lunch at Loro’s with us and afterwards get a beer at Easy Tiger. To remind myself how much I love the wooden-beamed interior of Loro’s, I include pics from an earlier time with Mark.
