Remembering Mom

Remembering Mom

Christmas 2018 was a bittersweet holiday for us, as we learned that Mark’s mom passed away on December 22nd. After her six months in hospice, we should have been prepared, but the loss of a parent, no matter how it’s in the natural order of things, always hits hard. Mark shared the news with us, and worked with Debbie on funeral arrangements, with his usual grace. We all felt gratitude for Mom’s full life and gentle passing, and as all the family gathered in Pawley’s Island, we felt the bond of our shared love for her. How could we not feel close, with so many fun memories of holidays in Richmond and Lake Monticello and Pawley’s Island? It was for Mark and Debbie and David, a saying goodbye to a vibrant and feisty mother who was as honest and strong as she was loving. And it was also for Mark and me, a saying goodbye to our frequent visits to Pawley’s, camping out in Mom’s apartment, watching her Fox News and game shows, and taking her to lunch at favorite spots on the water in Murrells Inlet. We will miss you, Mom, and will love and treasure you always.
