On March 21, after nineteen years in our family, Jaguar passed away. She gave us love and joy, and many laughs, and we will miss her calming presence. I mean, you couldn’t remain tense very long when Jaggie was stretched out lounging on the sofa, with no apparent care in the world. With innocence and even wisdom, she brought out the best in our children, their most tender, gentle selves. I can relate to what I read this Sunday in the New York Times, in a special feature on childhood pets. One person wrote, “I used to have long, intimate conversations with my cat. They tended to be one-sided, but he didn’t mind. If we’d shared a language, I would have tried to tell him how much I loved him. But even if we’d shared a language, I never would have found the words.” Amen. Rest in peace, sweet Jaggie.
